Venice
You know where’s nice this time of year? Venice, that’s where.
A world heritage site, this beautiful, historic city in northern Italy is chiefly famous for gondolas and its myriad canal system. The millions of tourists who visit each year bring in the bulk of the city’s income and Venice hotels are some of the finest in the world.
It’s also a much undervalued sporting city.
AC Venezia was founded in 1907 and spent much of the time since yo-yoing between Serie A and B, winning the Coppa Italia during the 1940-41 season. The club plays its home games at the Pierluigi Penzo stadium, located in the east of the city.

The Alberoni golf course in Via Del Forte is widely thought of as one of the top ten courses in the country. With three practice greens and access for non-members, this 18-hole course is a must-visit for any fan of the sport.
Unsurprisingly for a city with such a watery legacy, the opportunities to sail in Venice are numerous. Enjoy a sedate gondola tour of the city or, if you’re looking for something with a more competitive edge make sure you’re in town for the first Sunday in September for the annual Regata Storica on the Grand Canal. There are plenty of hotels in Venice to choose from and lots of Venice travel guides which will point you in the right direction during your visit.

If you like a challenge or even feel like doing your bit for charity, enter the famous Venice marathon. First run in 1986, the race attracts competitors from all over the world. Victorious last October was Kenya’s John Komen, who won in a new course record time of 2:08:13.
So go on, sports fans, treat yourself with a trip to Venice.
